Our Savvy Organic Shopper is currently up in Portland, Maine preparing for Thanksgiving. This year, she plans to bake a home-made apple pie, but she needs the main ingredient: apples, of course! She headed to the local Whole Foods to pick some up and was surprised by the price of organic Macintosh apples; they were only $2.69 per lb (non-organic apples where priced at $1.99 per lb). From her standpoint, that was a small price to pay to ensure her family would have a happy and healthy holiday, filled with great tasting foods grown and processed without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers.
