Recipe by Cathy Whims, Nostrana
3 cups Nancy’s whole milk organic yogurt, chilled
¾ cup vanilla powdered sugar (see recipe below)
or
¾ cup powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla extract
Pour yogurt into an ice cream or gelato maker and stir in the vanilla sugar or powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Freeze according to manufacturer’s instructions for about 20 minutes.
Serve with a loose textured berry jam or a berry sauce made from raspberries, marionberries, blackberries, loganberries, boysenberries, etc. cooked together with a small amount of sugar for 5 minutes (1 pint of berries with 3 – 4 Tbs. sugar).
Frozen yogurt has a huge following but a bad reputation. First it surfaced as a craze of the seventies then again in the eighties, and now it is sweeping New York and LA in 2007!
BUT this is not frozen yogurt with all its’ awful emulsifiers and fillers. This is a pure, healthy and refreshing gelato refreshing on a hot summer day.
Vanilla Powdered Sugar
Put a vanilla bean into a glass jar, fill the jar with powdered sugar, seal and store in a cool place. This sugar provides a more delicate fragrance than sugar and vanilla extract can provide.
