When growing peas there is no need to apply fertilizer to the soil. The fact that they fix nitrogen from air in their roots means that not only the pea crop benefits, but so does any crop which follows it. This ability makes them ideal for the organic vegetable garden.
Different Kinds of Peas
1. There are two main types of pea: Ones grown for the peas within the pod which are best eaten as fresh as possible; and
2. Mangetout or "eat all peas" where the whole pod is eaten. This group includes sugar snap peas. These peas are best eaten when the pods are immature. Any that reach maturity can be shelled and eaten as normal peas.
