EAST GREENBUSH — As produce pops out of the ground this summer, farmer’s markets pop up to offer freshly grown vegetables to shoppers. One of those markets sells items cultivated by a unique group: students at Goff Middle School in East Greenbush.

Nancy Scott, a remedial math teacher for sixth-graders, guides the Goff Organic Garden program, defined on the school’s website as “a project that provides meaningful community service, raises environmental awareness, and teaches students and adults where their food comes from. Students are challenged to look at how their choices every day can make positive environmental changes that improve the health of our planet. The Garden donates organic produce to food pantries and provides produce to Goff's cooking classes.”
