ANNE MURPHY says she likes living at the Solaire, a rental building in Battery Park City, because it allows her to feel environmentally “virtuous.”

The 27-story apartment tower, which bills itself as the country’s first green residential high-rise, has a buildingwide air filtration system, generates electricity with solar-energy panels and uses recycled water for toilets.

Ms. Murphy added to her green credentials this summer when she became one of the first residents in her building to sign up for a community-supported agriculture plan, or C.S.A., tailored to the Solaire. Under the plan, residents pay a Vermont farm a fee to become members and in turn have vegetables, fruits and meats delivered to them at the building by a farm truck every Saturday.
