On a recent trip to Whole Foods Market in Darien, CT, our Savvy Organic Shopper came across competitively priced organic granola. She found certified organic Ambrosial Granola on sale for $4.99 per 12 oz. package. The same sized package of natural granola was $5.99. She knew she couldn’t be sure about how the ingredients in the natural granola were grown and processed, since the term “natural” is not regulated. At the same time, she knew that, by law, the organic granola had to have been made without the use of chemical additives or artificial ingredients. Combined with the fact that she could save $1.00 by going organic, her choice was clear: organic was the better deal!
