Our Savvy Organic Shopper recently went to the Brattleboro Vermont Co-Op in search of red wine with which to make sangria. While there, she found a bottle of organic red wine for $12.00. A bottle of non-organic wine was priced at $7.00. As she reached for the lower priced wine, she remembered a report she’d read about grapes being among the produce items most heavily sprayed with toxic pesticides. Thinking about the possible effects such pesticides could have on her health, she changed her mind and grabbed the organic wine, feeling confident it would make a smart addition to the sangria mix.
